Before there was a Salty Pirate Hunt Club, before the first duck blind was built, and long before some fool decided hunting needed a permit, there was Old Mossback.
Some say he's a Skunk Ape. Others swear he's the last of the Caloosahatchee Rivermen. The old-timers down on Pine Island claim he once shared a bottle of rum with José Gaspar himself, then disappeared into the mangroves with the pirate's favorite shotgun.
Nobody knows for certain.
What we do know is that somewhere between the blackwater swamps of the Kissimmee, the sawgrass of Okeechobee, and the tidal creeks of Southwest Florida, a legend was born.
A creature of few words, questionable hygiene, and impeccable taste in waterfowl.
He's been hunting these waters since before Florida was Florida. Knows every duck hole, every hidden creek, and every place a game warden's boat can't reach.
He doesn't follow the migration reports.
The ducks follow him.
